Emerald City Classic Recap

CONGRATULATIONS! to all our PS teams for a great overall performance at the 2019 Emerald City Classic. Once again our club was impressive as PSVBA 18-Pat went undefeated (9-0) without dropping a set to win the U18 Open Gold Division CHAMPIONSHIP! PSVBA 18-Tricia played exceptionally well and also brought home some hardware with a 2nd Place in the U18 Club GOLD Division! PSVBA 17- Bobby went (8-1) to claim 1st Place in the U18 Open Silver Division, while PSVBA 13-Mike went (6-2) to claim 1st Place in the U13 Club Silver Division.

Kudos to Abbie Jackson (18 Open MVP), Kortney Hitt (18 Open), Hale Wondwosen (18 Club), and Nicole Kelly (18-Club) for being selected to the All-Tournament Team. Lastly, CONGRATS! to all our Class of 2019 Senior Players for completing a FANTASTIC SEASON ending their club careers in great fashion! You really can’t ask for a better finish!

PL#3 Recap

Congratulations to PS17-Bobby for going undefeated on Saturday and earning their spot in the prestigious Platinum League! Congrats to PS 16-Aletha who also went undefeated for the second straight power league and moving up a flight! Overall we had 4 PS teams go undefeated finishing 1st in pool play (18-Tricia, 17-Bobby, 16-Aletha, and 12-Andrew)! Way to go PS!

We also had (9) of our 14 teams that competed this past weekend either move up a flight or maintain their spot in the top flight of their division! (Kudos 12-Andrew, 12-Liz, 13-Mike, 14-Kelly, 15-Rod, 16-Aletha, 16-Joe, 1-Bobby, 18-Tricia). That means just about all of our National teams are in Platinum or Flight 1 – a great indication of the overall strength of our club! And PS has two U12 teams in the Top 4 of the U12 Power League – that’s Awesome! Obviously, there is still work to do and our teams need to continue to push and improve as we approach the mid-point of our season and the all important PSR Bid tournament in a few weeks! Way to go PS – Let’s keep pushing forward!

U12’s Cupid’s Ace Champs!

Add the Kitsap Select U12 Championship to the growing list of tournament wins for this exciting young group of players! The U12 team went undefeated on Sunday to win the Cupid’s Ace Tournament Championship! They are steadily growing and continue to be one our most energetic and fun teams in our club to watch! Congrats PS 12’s!!

U18 PSR Bid Champs!

PS 18’s go undefeated on Sunday earning the PSR National Bid and punching their ticket to the U18 GJNC in Dallas! The team had to overcome so much adversity this weekend with several players down due to injury and illness. However, down the stretch when it counted most the PS 18’s TEAM showed their dominance winning convincingly in the Semi-Final and Championship matches. What a fun ride it’s been to see the progression of our players and the completeness of this team come together! This is certainly one of our most well rounded teams all-time and that is saying alot with all the GREAT teams that have come through PSVBA!

President’s Weekend Recap

What an eventful weekend this has been, we had several teams travel to compete at the Triple Crown Championships in Kansas City. Kudos to 17-Bobby and 18-Pat – teams that competed well against some of the best teams in the Nation and finishing higher than any other club in our region placing two teams in the highly competitive OPEN division of the U17 & U18 age division. It was great for all our teams to compete against high level competition across the board.

Congratulations to PS 18-Tricia who traveled to Glendale Arizona to compete in the AAU Festival Fiesta and came home with hardware!

Great job to 15-Brin, 15-Bri, and 14-Loyd getting to compete in the festive CEVA President’s Weekend tournament in Eugene! Heard our U15 teams had a blast playing against each other!

Congratulations to PS 16-Joe for winning the WVBA President’s Weekend Tournament Championship! PS had all three of our teams finish in the GOLD division of their tournament – Way to go 13-Mike, 15-Tom and 16-Joe!

Power League #1 Recap

What a great overall performance by our club over the weekend! PSVBA had 6 teams go undefeated at 4-0 in the first PSR power league play date and 2 more teams finish 2nd in their respective flights… We also had 12 PS teams improve or maintain their rank/flight which is a great indication that our teams are doing what we always do at this stage of the season… Improve! Can’t wait to see where we are as a club in a few months!

Congrats to PS 12-Andrew, currently the #1 ranked U12 team in the region, PS 15-Rod, currently the #1 team in the U15 division, and PS 18-Pat, currently the #1 ranked team in the region. It’s pretty exciting to see these teams atop their division because we feel they are all no where near their potential at this early stage in the season… Congrats to PS 12-Liz, 15-Tom, and 16-Atletha for also going undefeated this weekend! It’s great to see so many PS teams doing well! Great job to all our teams, coaches and players for a great overall showing at PL#1.

MLK Weekend Champions!

It was a great weekend of volleyball for PSVBA… We sent (7) teams to Eugene, Oregon to compete at the Matt Hartner Memorial Classic, which is one of the West Coast’s premiere MLK tournaments, hosting 264 club teams from Washington, Oregon, Canada, Idaho, Montana & California… And proud to report, we came back with the U18 Open Championship!!! Way to go PS 18-Pat for going 9-0 through the weekend and for being the third time in the last four years that PSVBA has won a Championship at this event! Kudos to PS 16-Aletha for also going undefeated throughout the weekend finishing at 8-0 in the U16 Division. We also had three teams finish in the Top 20 of their respective division!

Back home in Washington, several of our teams competed in the NWJR MLK tournament… and in their first competition of the season, our PS 12-Andrew team went 5-0 on their way to winning the Northwest Juniors U12 MLK Championship!!! Kudos to PS 14-Kim for finishing at 6-1, 3rd in the U14s and PS 13-Mike for finishing at 5-2, 11th overall.

Another Great Weekend!

I know we are just getting started but we had another great weekend! Congratulations to our U13-U15 teams! We had three more PS teams go undefeated at 3-0 to win their respective pool… Congrats PS13-2 Joe, PS 14-1 Kelly, PS 15-1 Rod! Special Congrats to our 14’s and 15’s for holding onto their #1 overall ranking as we head to the first Power League play date.

If you’re counting PSVBA has five (5) teams in the Top 4 of every age division in our region…(BTW, there’s not another club in the entire region that can say that)… I can’t wait to see what our teams look like in another month!

And so it begins!

Here at Puget Sound, we never judge our season on how we begin… it’s more about how our players develop, and our teams perform over the course of the season! That said, we are definitely off to a great start! Congratulations to our U16, U17 & U18 teams that competed in the PSR Seeding League this weekend! PSVBA went 9-0 in match play on Saturday as all three of our teams in the U18 Power League won their pool going undefeated!

The U18 Power League is going to be pretty competive this year but we’ll enter the first power league with both PSVBA 18-1 Pat & PSVBA 17-1 Bobby in the Top 4 to start – pretty awesome! On Sunday, PSVBA 16-1 Joe added to an already successful weekend winning their pool and also finishing in the Top 4 of the U16 power league! I’d call 4 out of 5 teams finishing 1st in their respective pools and three teams in Flight 1 a pretty good start…
